Where is Andorra located?

The Principality of Andorra is located in the eastern Pyrenees and is one of the smallest countries in Europe, covering an area of 468 square kilometers. It borders France to the east and Spain to the west. Geographically, Andorra lies entirely in the high mountains - at an average altitude of over 1,900 meters - making it one of the highest countries in Europe. The landlocked country lies southwest of France and northeast of Spain and has no direct connection to the sea. The capital Andorra la Vella is also the highest capital in Europe. Due to its location in the Pyrenees, Andorra's landscape is characterized by mountains, narrow valleys and alpine nature. Andorra is not a member of the European Union, but uses the euro as its official currency. In terms of the head of state, Andorra is unique in the world: the country is a parliamentary co-principality and is represented by two foreign representatives, the Spanish Bishop of Urgell and the French President.

Andorra - The land of the Pyrenees

Snow-covered mountains in the Grandvalira ski resort in Andorra with a deep blue sky in winter

Although the small country is poor in natural resources (only 2% of the area is arable), Andorra attracts many visitors thanks to its location in the middle of the Pyrenees . In winter, the Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís ski resorts attract visitors with over 250 km of perfectly groomed slopes, modern lifts and guaranteed snow until spring. The offer is complemented by winter hiking trails, snowshoe tours and dog sledding in a fantastic Pyrenean setting. In summer, Andorra's ski resorts are transformed into versatile outdoor paradises: Hiking trails lead through blooming mountain landscapes, bike parks beckon with trails for every level, and crystal-clear mountain lakes invite you to linger. High ropes courses, via ferratas and adventure parks offer variety for the whole family. The two nature parks Parc Natural de la Vall de Sorteny and the Parc Natural Comunal de les Valls del Comapedrosa offer ideal conditions for hiking, horse riding and exploring. Andorra is also an Eldorado for mountaineers and climbers - here you will find 65 mountain peaks that exceed the 2,000 meter mark.
Andorra has established itself as a venue for international sporting events - especially in outdoor and winter sports. Alpine Ski World Cups and ski mountaineering competitions are regularly held here. In summer, the high mountain region also attracts athletes from all over the world to mountain bike races, skyrunning events and stages of the Vuelta a España and Tour de France cycling races. The combination of alpine landscape, modern infrastructure and sporting diversity makes Andorra a popular host.
